Today we are making a basic tomato sauce recipe. For us Italian-Americans this a starting point of many meals for us.

First we brown the onion in olive oil. Once the onion has cooked for a few minutes we add garlic, we don't add the onion and garlic at the same time since the onion needs to cook longer and we don't want to burn our garlic.
Once the onion and garlic are nice and golden brown we add our crushed tomatoes. Add in a little water, that will cook down and thicken up as the sauce cooks. Then we add in some dried spices. Simmer on a medium heat 20 to 30 minutes and your ready to go!

Homemade Tomato Sauce
Ingredients:
½ white onion chopped
3 cloves garlic minced
Olive oil
2 28 oz canned crushed tomatoes
Dried Basil and Oregano
Salt and Pepper to taste
Directions:
1.Heat oil and chopped onion on medium heat 5 minutes
2.Add minced garlic until golden brown
3.Add crushed tomatoes and spices
4.Simmer 20-30 minutes stirring occasionally so sauces does not stick
