The Salisbury steak brings us back to when we are little and how our mother makes this meal. Salisbury steak is best paired with rice or mashed potatoes, but for us, it is best with butter noodles. It also goes along with side dishes like corn or fries drizzled with Salisbury gravy. It might seem intimidating to cook because of its name, but fear not, it is quick and easy to prepare. Although we highly encourage you to try our recipe, do not limit yourself to this recipe alone but do try to explore more and find what fits your cooking style.
Ingredients:
2 lbs ground beef
1 tsp black pepper
1 tsp salt
2 eggs
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
2 tbsp dried parsley or basil
1 tbsp onion powder
1 tbsp granulated garlic
1 tsp dried thyme
¼ cup tomato ketchup
1 cup panko bread crumbs
Optional: serve with buttered egg noodles
Gravy ingredients:
A small yellow onion halved and thinly sliced
Salt and pepper to taste
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tbsp cornstarch + 1 cup water/broth
2 cups no salt added beef broth, or more as needed
Directions:
Patties: In a large bowl, season beef with salt and pepper and combine with eggs, Worcestershire sauce, dried parsley, granulated garlic, dried thyme, tomato ketchup, and bread crumbs. Mix the ingredients until fully combined, then form them into patties, ½ inch thick, about ¼ lb each.
Grease a 12-inch skillet over medium-high heat with olive oil. Fry the patties until cooked through, about 5 mins per side. Transfer patties to a paper towel-lined plate and cover to keep warm.
Gravy: On the same skillet under medium-high heat, season onion with salt and pepper and sauté until golden brown, about 3-5 min, stirring occasionally.
Add Worcestershire sauce and beef broth to the pan. Dissolve cornstarch with water before pouring it into the pan. Let the mixture simmer, adjusting the heat as needed, until thickened, occasionally stirring for 8-10 mins. If the sauce gets too thick, add more broth 1 tbsp at a time to thin it. Add salt and pepper as needed.
Return the cooked patties to the simmering gravy. Spoon gravy over the top, add mushrooms, and let simmer until heated through for about 25 minutes.
Meanwhile, boil water and cook the butter noodles. Boil until it softens, and drain the water.
Serve the patties with noodles while still hot. Enjoy.
